We started off our September posts by having our 3 Clinical Interns form the University of Windsor BSW program introduce themselves to you. We thought that we would check back in with each of them and so they can share how their time with BANA is going.
BANA has been such a great learning experience! I have learned about the population affected by eating disorders and the wide range of symptoms and behaviors. I have learned that each individual’s journey and recovery is unique, which has truly been inspiring. My best experience at BANA thus far, has been co-facilitating the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy support group. I was able to really see the progress of each individual and how beneficial the support group was for each client’s journey.
This has truly solidified my passion towards eating disorders and I cannot wait until next semester. I am looking forward to working more with clients on an individual basis and starting the assessment process. The BANA team has been nothing but wonderful with supporting my learning journey thus far. Thank you greatly to the clients and staff for making this first semester inspiring! Have a great holiday season and I will see you all NEXT YEAR!

Throughout the first semester of my clinical internship at BANA I have been able to connect social work theories and techniques learned in class to my placement experiences. While connecting the in class material to my practicum I have gained knowledge of the diverse roles social workers perform in our community. During my placement I have practiced the social work technique of networking and collaborating. I have practiced these two techniques by becoming a member of the Service Alliance for Equality (SAFE) committee and contacting local businesses for the Murder Mystery event on February 28, 2015.
During my first semester at BANA I have been fortunate enough to have experience a wide variety of learning opportunities. The best learning opportunity that I have participated at BANA is the Mindfulness Group with clients and helping to plan the Murder Mystery event. I am excited to see the event come to life in the New Year! I am also looking forward to co-facilitating the PTE group next semester and working one on one with clients.
Thank you BANA staff and clients for supporting me through this journey. Have a happy holiday and a happy New Year.
Throughout my clinical internship at BANA I have received a more in depth understanding of the cognitive aspects of an eating disorder, and the effect disordered eating can have on an individual’s everyday life. I have had the opportunity to co-facilitate a group and learn from the skills and techniques the social worker uses in terms of effectively running a group. I have had an amazing experience at BANA, and the staff has made me feel extremely welcome. The staff and has been a great asset in my development as a professional, and I am extremely thankful for their continuous support and advice.
I am looking forward to continuing to learn about eating disorders, and work one on one with clients. I am extremely passionate about healthy eating and having a healthy body image, and being at BAAN has just increased my passion. I now understand more than ever the great need for the services that BANA provides, and am extremely pleased to be a part of the agency.
