On Tuesday October 28th, 2014 The Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association, commonly referred to as BANA had the pleasure of attending the open house at the Aids Committee of Windsor. Two BANA staff members along with three social work student interns were given a tour of the agency and provided with information about the services that the Aids Committee of Windsor provides. Some of the services provided at the Aids Committee of Windsor include HIV testing and education, African Caribbean and Black Community Outreach program, Gay MSM Sexual Health Program, Young & Proud and Open House, and Harm Reduction to name a few. Anonymous HIV Testing is available at the AIDS Committee the first and last Wed of every month from 4-7pm.
Our exploration of agencies did not stop with the Aids Committee of Windsor. We also had the opportunity to stop at Windsor Pride and get information on their programs such as Run for Rocky and Windsor Essex Pride Fest. A part of Windsor Pride’s mission is to educate and increase public awareness and understanding of the diversity of biological sex, gender, identity and sexual orientation, and the agency staff certainly met their mission when it came to educating us.
It was a great opportunity for us as Social Work Interns to connect with community agency and learn more about the services available within our area, and we are very thankful to the Aids Committee of Windsor and Windsor Pride to educating us on the services they provide.
A special thank you to Colm Holmes and Bob Williams for the tours.
