Windsor Family Credit Union Announces Recipients of the 2013 Community Donations Fund
$40,000 Awarded to Windsor-Essex Organizations
On Tuesday, April 30, 2013 Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) announced the recipients of the 2013 Community Donations Fund, a fund dedicated to assisting community organizations deliver needed programs and projects for the Windsor and Essex County region. The Community Donations Fund is a significant element of WFCU’s overall Community Investment Program. Over the last three years, WFCU has invested over $2.4 million back into the community through the Community Investment Program.
Today, WFCU was pleased to award funds to eighteen very worthy organizations from across Windsor and Essex County. The organizations deliver a wide range of programs and represent a cross-section of community groups and agencies from the Windsor-Essex region. Forecasting a successful year, WFCU was able to increase the Community Donations Fund distribution from $25,000 to $40,000. This brings the total amount that has been donated through the Community Donations Fund, over the last 10 years, to over $316,000.
“We are here today to recognize the efforts of organizations in our community that help make our community a better place” says Martin J. Komsa, WFCU President and Chief Executive Officer. “Giving back to our community is not just a philosophy at WFCU but an integral part of who we are” explained Komsa. WFCU’s mission statement is to provide services and a full range of the highest quality financial products to make its community the best place to live and work. WFCU believes that the Community Donations Fund is one way to accomplish this task however it is just a small part of WFCU’s overall commitment to Windsor and surrounding areas. Through its overall Community Investment Program and in addition to the Community Donations Fund, this Program provides Community Relations Programs, Youth Scholarships, Goods-In-Kind and Volunteerism, Free Community Rooms, Multi-Year Giving and The Community 1 Free Chequing Account. As a locally owned and operated company, WFCU believes that being a responsible corporate citizen means investing in the community in which you operate and live. In short, WFCU believes supporting its community is a sound investment and takes great pride in its designation by the Canadian Centre of Philanthropy’s Imagine Program as a “Caring Company”.
Recipients of the 2013 Community Donations Fund include, Autism Services Windsor Essex, Brain Injury Association of Windsor Essex County, Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA), Ford City Residents in Action, Family Respite Services Windsor/Essex, Harmony In Action, House of Sophrosyne, John McGivney Children’s Centre, LaSalle Spirit Sports Club, Learning Disabilities Association of Windsor-Essex County, Naturalized Habitat Network of Essex County & Windsor, Pajama Angels, Special Olympics Windsor, St. Mary’s Church, Sun Parlour Players Community Theatre, Tecumseh Area Historical Society, The Hospice of Windsor & Essex County Inc. and Windsor Essex Therapeutic Riding Association.
